SAVANT SYNDROME
What is Savant
Syndrome?
Savant
syndrome is a condition in which a person who demonstrates the capacity or
ability incredibly deep and far beyond the ordinary. People who suffer savant
syndrome may have neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly autism spectrum
disorder, or brain injury. Among the most dramatic examples of savant syndrome
occurs in individuals who scored very low on IQ tests, while demonstrating
exceptional ability or excellence in specific areas, such as rapid calculation,
art, memory, or the ability of music. Although called a syndrome, it is not
recognized as a mental disorder or mental disorders as part of the medical
manual.
Characteristic
There
are no widely accepted cognitive theory explains the combination of scholars'
talents and deficits. It has been suggested that individuals with autism tend
to process and detail-focused cognitive style that affects individuals either
with or without autism to Savant talents. Besides that, there are also exerting
hypothesis that scholars hyper-systemize, with the impact of talent.
Hyper-writing is an extreme state in empathizing-systemizing theory that
classifies people according to their skills in empathizing with others than
they are writing the truth about the outside world. Also, the attention to
detail of scholars is a result of enhanced perceptual or sensory
hypersensitivity in individuals unique. It has also been confirmed that some
scholars continue to operate with low-level access, the less processed the
information that exists in all human brains are not usually available to
conscious awareness.
